The Grade 10 Richmond secondary student picked up the title at a recent gala and B.C. finals held at the Executive Airport Plaza Hotel on Westminster Highway.

Mina, whose singing performance impressed the judges at the provincial finals, will now go on to the Miss Teenage Canada National Pageant 2018 in August in Toronto.

Mina’s proud mom, Shelly Xiao, described her daughter as “a versatile, compassionate girl” who has made great strides since “fighting against emotional struggle in the initial immigration years.”

“She has been passionate about studying psychology in university and wants to become an art therapist,” added Xiao.

“She has mastered several musical instruments: piano, flute, guitar, organ and pipa.”
