Fancy seeing a cow getting milked or a calf getting fed?

If the answer is “yes,” then this weekend’s Richmond Scouts’ Fun and Skills 2015 event is for you.

Fun and Skills has been running for several years, but this Sunday, June 14, the local Scouts are opening up the event for the entire community to come out and enjoy.

Among the attractions at the free event at King George Park will be Richmond Emergency Preparedness, OWL (Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society), RCMP, London Drugs, Richmond Fire-Rescue and the aforementioned milking of a cow, as part of the Mobile Dairy Classroom.

And, of course, the actual skills Scouts learn every week will be on show, including Morse code, a pioneering obstacle course, First Aid, badge trading and other fun crafts and games, such as water rockets and a dunk tank.

“We want to reach out to the new immigrants in the city and show them what the Scouts are all about and what we have to offer,” said Tommy Lai, troop advisor for the 32nd Richmond Scout Group, of which there are 12 in Richmond, with around 700 members.

“Most of the new immigrants are from mainland China and this is the biggest target for us, as they have nothing like the Scouts in China.”

Lai said they’re expecting hundreds of people and families from around the area to turn out for the event.

The event, which runs from noon until 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, will also feature:

City of Richmond: Emergency Preparedness and communications vehicle; Bee Keepers Association (including observation hive and honey tasting).
