With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, Grade 6 and 7 students at Errington elementary are putting all their love into a very special, charity bake sale.
In aid of families in Third World countries, the school’s 30 or so-strong student council is putting on a We Bake for Change event on Friday, Feb. 13, with hundreds of tasty treats expected to raise funds for the worthy cause.
“We can buy or make the cakes and bring them into the school on Friday,” said one of the organizers, Hedy Fu, 12.
While Fu’s fellow student council member, Simran Sidhu, also 12, said her sister was “very good at baking” and hoped to enlist her help before Friday.
Both students said they were inspired to organize the event by the many “great speakers” they heard at We Day in Vancouver, which is part of a global movement to motivate children to enact social change around the planet.
In addition to the bake sale, students have the opportunity to help their bake sales go even further, with the “Baking a Difference” Awards.
By taking a photo of their baking party or bake sale, sharing why this was a special moment and applying online, they will be entered to win up to $5,000 to donate to the Adopt a Village country of their choice.
