Richmond's Brian Ho is one step closer to his dream of becoming a K-pop idol.

A Richmond K-pop idol hopeful has survived the first round of eliminations on the popular Korean show Boys Planet 999.

In the latest episode, McMath secondary graduate Brian Ho secured his spot for the next round by ranking 41st with more than 91,000 votes from Korean viewers and 178,290 votes from international viewers.

Out of the 99 contestants, only 52 will be moving on to the next round.

Contestants faced the first elimination after completing a level test and theme song (also referred to as signal song) test. Korean and global contestants also faced off in a performance "battle," where winners received bonus points that could boost their rankings.

The first voting period, which began in the first episode, lasted for 20 days. A total of 52,434,522 votes were recorded from 176 countries around the world.

The second round of voting has started and will run until March 16 at 5 p.m. PST (March 17 at 10 a.m. in Korea).  Viewers may vote for six contestants every day using the Mnet Plus mobile app.

The final group, which will be made up of nine members, will be wholly decided by votes from viewers. To learn more about the show and to vote, visit the Boys Planet website.
