When the holiday comes to the end and it's time to take down your Christmas trees, bring it to the Richmond Firefighters' annual tree chipping charity or recycle it through various options with the city.

This year's Christmas tree chipping event will be held on on Jan. 2 and 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Garry Point Park.

Residents are asked to take the trees out of their own vehicles this year due to COVID-19. Volunteers can safely assist if trees are strapped to the roof of vehicles.

Donations are encouraged to help support the Richmond Firefighters' Charities.

This year's tree chipping event supports:

  • Richmond Food Bank
  • Richmond Therapeutic Equestrian Society
  • Vancouver Children's Hospital
  • BC Professional Firefighters Burn Fund
  • Muscular Dystrophy Canada
  • Make-A-Wish Foundation

Trees can recycled at the Richmond Recycling Depot, 5555 Lynas Lane, starting Jan. 2.

Residents with curbside Green Cart collection also have the option to cut up and bundle their tree, maximum size of three feet by two feet by four inches in diameter, and place it at the curb side on their regular collection day.

A reminder to everyone to remove all the tinsel and decorations from their trees.
