Richmondites can contribute to the design of the new neighbourhood park by responding to the survey by August 7.

A new neighbourhood park is being planned for the Capstan Village neighbourhood, and Richmondites are being invited to comment on the design.

"The park will be approximately 0.54 hectares (1.34 acres) in size and will include a variety of components to meet the needs of this new and growing community," reads the city's press release.

Richmondites can provide their feedback on the guiding principles for the design and the draft park concept by completing a short survey on LetsTalkRichmond.ca by August 7.

Questions include what Richmondites want to see and do in the park, how they want the space to be allocated, whether they want off-leash areas for dogs as well as an orchard or a forest garden, and naming suggestions for the park.

Recently, a Richmond dad launched a petition to urge the city to address concerns about the newly opened Alexandra Park, stating that the use of crushed gravel was not only a safety hazard but also negated wheelchair access to the playground. The design of the park was subject to extensive community engagement including surveys, according to the city.

City staff is scheduled to provide the draft design concept for the new Capstan Village neighbourhood park to City Council in the fall.
