A video of an RCMP officer picking up a gun-like object potentially in Richmond is gaining traction on TikTok.

A video of an RCMP officer picking up a gun-like object from a place tagged as Steveston’s London Landing is gaining traction on TikTok.

Using a rendition of Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door as background music, the video shows a person in RCMP uniform picking up what appears to be a black handgun from the ground and placing it into a plastic bag.

The video was posted by TikTok user @grow_in_the_dark back in October and prompted questions regarding the context and whether it was safe to put the gun in a bag.

Cpl. Adriana O’Malley, Richmond RCMP spokesperson, said while the contents of the videos can’t “conclusively” link it to a Richmond investigation, RCMP did retrieve a pellet gun at London Landing back in October.

Police responded to a call in the area on Oct. 9, 2022 for a “suspicious circumstance.”

“The complainant reported seeing what appeared to be a black handgun stuck in the mud, underneath a dock,” said O’Malley.

But it ended up being a black pellet gun, which the officer retrieved.

“The pellet gun was seized and sent for local destruction,” said O’Malley.
