Painful lesson must be taught

Many of Richmond's citizens have been shaken by the sudden and tragic deaths of brothers Shane and Jess Moses.

Many of Richmond's citizens have been shaken by the sudden and tragic deaths of brothers Shane and Jess Moses.

Even those who did not know the boys become teary eyed when hearing about the outcome of what appears to be some bad decisions that led to the death of these boys.

Personally, I didn't know either of the victims, but that doesn't take away from the pain I felt upon hearing about their deaths.

The lesson these two boys leave is one that will live on and has the potential to save the lives of others who may think twice before making certain decisions.

Being a young driver myself, I can see how the elements of speed and power, packaged in a luxurious car, may contribute to the feeling of being invincible.

On the other hand, belonging to a generation that has literally grown up being told, "don't drink and drive," I find this message drilled into my brain.

For me, high school is over. And while I do not recall everything I learned, I do have vivid memories of speakers coming to talk to us high school kids about the dangers of drunk driving.

Many of the speakers had been personally involved in incidents of drinking and driving - which certainly helped to steer their messages home.

The lost lives of these two innocent Richmond teenagers should stand to serve as a constant reminder to make smart decisions, not only just to young drivers, but drivers in general.

The legacy of Shane and Jess Moses shall live on forever as we feel the very real effects of drunk driving.

My thoughts and condolences go out to the family. Rest in peace, Shane and Jess Moses.
