Out and About: Exploring Richmond's Athiana Acres

From educational tours on regenerative farming to bouquet-making workshops.

Athiana Acres is a beautiful and ingenious combination of a farm market, an interactive, educational garden site and an event venue.

I visited the 30-acre location recently and was impressed by its offerings and organization. It is a real pleasure to see Richmond’s great soil being regenerated and preserved for agriculture.

The name Athiana Acres derives from the Panatch family’s ancestral village in the northern Indian province of Punjab.

Agriculture has played an integral role in the family’s history for over 100 years.

Athiana Acres is a vibrant 30-acre regenerative farm that grows an abundance of vegetables, fruits, herbs and flowers.

A major focus of the farm is to regenerate the soil through careful land care practices. There is an emphasis on biodiversity and environmentally friendly soil enhancement. Ten acres of the farm are producing vegetables and flowers, while 20 acres are being regenerated.

Athiana Acres, received its organic certification in May 2024 and is dedicated to the creation of high-quality, fresh produce and flowers.

The market is open Wednesday from 2 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. where there are seasonal vegetables and over 50 varieties of flowers being offered.

The market operates from June 15 until November and offers seasonal varieties of freshly harvested products.

Athiana Acres offers walking farm tours every Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. The tour offers a behind-the-scenes look at produce and flower production and provides insight into organic and regenerative farming practices.

As part of its commitment to a healthy lifestyle, the farm has partnered with True Yoga to offer yoga on the farm. These classes are scheduled every Wednesday at 5 p.m. until Aug. 28.

Other educational events for our community include a flower-growing and bouquet-making workshop on Aug. 7 and Aug. 25 as well as an introduction to organic regenerative farming on Aug. 28.

The best current information on farm products and events can be found on Athiana’s website: https://www.athianaacres.com/

Athiana is located at 12800 No. 2 Rd., Richmond.
