A superhero production team has been secretly making donations to help support the Richmond Christmas Fund this year.
Cast and crew members of Superman & Lois, a DC TV drama series – partly filmed in Richmond - launched a campaign with a donation goal of $10,000 to help the fund ensure low-income Richmond residents can celebrate during the holiday season.
According to Ed Gavsie, CEO of fund organizers Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives, the film’s campaign has raised over $7,500 so far.
“We were totally unaware of the launch of this campaign until we started to see donations arriving online with Superman & Lois in the comment box,” said Gavsie, adding that donations were coming in from cast and crew members, production and editing companies as well as other suppliers. Several donations were made anonymously.
“Not only does this production pour money into our local community, but they also ensure to give back to those most in need.”
The Richmond News reported this week that the TV show, Superman & Lois, which filmed at Mylora Golf Course on Sidaway Road and across Metro Vancouver, had poured more than $95 million into B.C.
In addition to creating jobs, the show contributed almost $50,000 in support of local community initiatives including the Richmond Christmas Fund.
The series contributed approximately $137 million to the provincial GDP in 2020-21.
