Pop-up events to connect low-income Richmond residents to local organizations with an aim to reduce poverty in the city.

The second of a five-month pop-up event series aiming to reduce poverty in the Richmond community will be held next week.

Free drop-in community services to connect residents with lower incomes to resources will take place on Thursday, Jan. 12 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Richmond Public Library (RPL) Brighouse location.

This new City of Richmond and RPL collaborative initiative provides residents access to resources to help them move out of poverty, according to a City of Richmond media release.

During December's first pop-up session, community members connected with more than ten different organizations through "thoughtful discussions."

Some services include navigational support for addiction services and affordable housing. There will also be application help for government assistance.

Each pop-up event will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. on the second Thursday of every month between December and April.

The event is also hosted in collaboration with a number of community organizations as part of the city's 2021-2031 Collaborative Action Plan to reduce and prevent poverty in Richmond. Funding for the program is provided by the provincial government through the Union of British Columbia Municipalities.
