The Richmond Christmas Fund registration and distribution is moving to Lansdowne Centre this year.

The Christmas Fund recently lost access to its longtime location, necessitating the search for a new home. Lansdowne was quick to answer the call, explained Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives (RCRG).

“We’re incredibly grateful to Lansdowne, and its owner, Vanprop, for giving us space at the mall,” said Ed Gavsie, RCRG president & CEO. “On short notice, they stepped up in a big way, ensuring that the Christmas Fund will once again be there for our neighbours in need.”

A program of RCRG, the Christmas Fund supports residents facing financial hardship, providing them with grocery vouchers, toys and gift cards so they can enjoy a holiday celebration.

At Lansdowne Centre, the Christmas Fund will be open on select days from Nov. 15 to Dec. 9, in a storefront next to ICBC.

The new location means the program will be more accessible, with nearly four times as many registration days than in previous years.

“We know a lot of people are struggling right now,” says Gavsie. “By keeping the Christmas Fund open for more days and longer hours, we’re making it easier for them to get help.”

When coming to register, applicants must bring picture ID for themselves, CareCards for all family members being registered, proof of Richmond residency, and a document showing they’re currently enrolled in an approved government income assistance program.

Those who qualify for support will immediately receive their allotment of items, determined by household size and composition.
