With the end of Daylight Savings time, Richmond Fire-Rescue reminds people to test home smoke alarms and replace batteries if they are more than six months old.
To ensure safety, Richmond Fire-Rescue recommends people perform a monthly smoke alarm test, by simply using the alarm's test button. Also, remember to dust or vacuum the alarm. Replace the entire smoke alarm if it is more than 10 years old.
Make sure everyone in your home understands the warning sound of the smoke alarm and knows how to respond.
