Surrey RCMP are warning people after a random attempted abduction.

Surrey RCMP is asking for witnesses to come forward and are searching for a suspect after an attempted abduction.

Just before midnight on Oct. 10 a woman reported the incident; she had been walking along a path between Edinburgh Drive and 132 Street not far from Surrey Memorial Hospital.

As she walked down the short path a man grabbed her from behind, according to a press release, and tried to drag her away.

"The woman screamed out for help and local residents came to her aid chasing after the suspect as he ran away," state the Mounties.

The woman was physically uninjured in the incident, according to police, but was upset and disturbed by the attack.

Police describe the suspect as a fair-skinned man standing 5'10" with a slim build. During the attack he wore all black clothing.

Both witnesses and the suspect are being sought. Police are specifically looking to talk to a man and a woman who helped the woman who was attacked get home. They think the pair may have information that will help.

At the same time the RCMP is reminding people to be vigilant.

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call the Surrey RCMP's non-emergency line at 604-599-0502. Alternatively, anonymous tips can be called into Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
