Homicide investigators are releasing the name and photo of a man who was stabbed to death in Surrey earlier this week.
Police said they were called to a report of a fight in the 6600-block of King George Boulevard around 11:50 p.m. on July 23. There, they found a man suffering from multiple stab wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, he died at the scene.
Police are now identifying the deceased as 47-year-old Jason Richard Gill of Surrey.
Witnesses reported seeing a male suspect fleeing the scene, said the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) in a press release Thursday.
"From the early stages of the investigation, this incident is not believed to be linked to the B.C. gang conflict," the IHIT statement said.
"The preliminary investigation suggests that the two individuals were engaged in an altercation resulting in the victim being fatally stabbed. It is unknown if the two parties were known to each other or the motivation for this tragic incident."
The suspect is being described as a white male, six feet tall, who was clean-shaven and had short, sandy-coloured blond hair.
"We are in the early stages of the investigation, and investigators are working to determine the motive," said Cpl. Esther Tupper of IHIT. "If you saw a male matching the suspect description in the area around the time of the homicide, please contact IHIT immediately."
Witnesses and anyone with dash camera or surveillance video in the area between 11 p.m. July 23 and 3 a.m. July 24 is asked to call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-4448 or email [email protected].
