'She thought I was joking!' Metro Vancouver man wins $1M, wife doesn't believe him

"I took her with me to validate it again and showed her the total."

Kanwar Kapoor had to take his wife to a store to check a lottery ticket before she believed they'd won $1 million.

“I was most excited to tell my wife, she thought I was joking and didn’t believe me,” recalled the Surrey resident. “So, I took her with me to validate it again and showed her the total.”

The Kapoors are the most recent Metro Vancouver Lotto Max winners. They won on the Oct. 18 draw after buying a ticket in Deroche, a small unincorporated community in the Fraser Valley, according to the B.C. Lottery Corporation (BCLC).

The couple plan to use some of their winnings for their children's education.

“This win will give me a bit of cushion and a sense of security,” says Kapoor.

The win brings the total won in the Lotto Max in B.C. to $158 million this year, according to the BCLC.
