Engineers assessing damage after Highway 99 truck accident

From Vancouver to Tilbury, afternoon commute being impacted greatly by closures

A southbound Highway 99 oversized load commercial vehicle that crashed into the Highway 17 overpass Tuesday morning has caused a traffic nightmare.

Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure engineers are currently on site assessing the damage.

With the northside overpass remaining closed at this hour (3 p.m.) this how it’s impacting traffic:

Highway 99 Soutbound: All traffic coming out of the George Massey Tunnel is being re-routed to Highway 17A.

River Road/Highway 17A Southbound: The overpass is closed for traffic coming southbound on River Road that wants to continue on 17A or head south on Highway 99. Traffic coming from Tilbury wanting to get to Ladner or Tsawwassen should take 80th Street to Highway 17 westbound.

Highway 17A Northbound: This side of the overpass was not impacted by the accident. Northbound traffic has access to the Highway 99 south and north bound entrances, as well as River Road. The lone exception is accessing the Highway 99 northbound HOV lane from 17A which is closed.
