Signs of rodent activity and an invalid permit to operate were among a list of issues found during a routine check on a Richmond restaurant this week, according to an inspection report by Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) posted online.
Tru'estea Restaurant at 8400 Alexandra Rd., a karaoke lounge, was ordered to close on Aug. 28 after a routine health inspection by VCH.
According to the VCH report, the health inspector found that no employee had a valid Foodsafe or equivalent certificate while the owner or operator was away, there was not enough lighting and/or ventilation in the restaurant and potentially hazardous food was not stored at a temperature of four degrees Celsius or below.
Furthermore, the restaurant appeared to not be maintained in a sanitary condition, a dishwasher was not cleaning and/or sanitizing dishes well enough to remove contamination and hand-washing stations were not properly supplied and maintained, according to VCH.
The health authority also noted there were signs of rodent activity.
A total of nine infractions, five critical and four non-critical were recorded during the inspection and a closure order was issued.
A notice posted at Tru'estea Restaurant, however, only listed some of the infractions but didn't include the invalid permit infraction.
