What to watch on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+ and other streaming services this month.

All the new shows (including some holiday movies) streaming this November.

Netflix releases for November

The Crown (Nov. 7)

The new season is currently steeped in two controversies right now, as some in the U.K. debate if it’s distasteful to release the season so soon after Queen Elizabeth II’s death and if the depiction of Princess Diana and the young princes is historical fiction or just insensitive. The trailer is pretty intense.

Blockbuster

This new filmed-in-Vancouver workplace series centres around the last brick-and-mortar Blockbuster store. (A little ironic that it's airing on Netflix.)

Enola Holmes

Based on a YA series of the same name, this clever series stars Millie Bobby Brown as a young detective who takes on cases with a little help from her friends (and her brother, Sherlock).

Dead to Me (season three, Nov. 17)

After a major season two cliff hanger and long hiatus, Dead to Me (a dark comedy about grief, domesticity and friendship) starring Christina Applegate, Linda Cardellini and James Marsden is back this month.

Pepsi, Where’s My Jet? (Nov. 17)

Need a break from true crime? This new documentary is about a teen who takes on Pepsi after winning a fighter jet in a contest. (The '90s were wild.)

Christmas with You (Nov. 23)

It’s quaint holiday movie season and many are filmed in B.C., including this Freddie Prinze Jr. movie, which turned Vernon into a winter wonderland this past summer.

New releases from Amazon Prime in November

My Policeman

Starring Harry Styles as a closeted gay man in the 1950s who marries a schoolteacher but carries on an illegal affair with a museum curator, the film had its premiere at TIFF (that was a bit overshadowed by Harry’s work in Don’t Worry Darling).

The People We Hate at the Wedding

Based on the best-selling book of the same name, this is a classic sibling rivalry story complicated by a family wedding in England. Stars Kristen Bell, Ben Platt, Cynthia Addai-Robinson and Allison Janney.

The English

Western dramas are very hot right now (thanks in part to the popularity of Yellowstone). The English stars Emily Blunt as a mom looking for vengeance in the harsh conditions of 1890s America.

Savage x Fenty (Vol. 4)

With a new single and upcoming Super Bowl half-time show, the Rihannassance is in full effect. Her lingerie shows are over-the-top spectacles and full of star power.

New releases for Apple+ in November

Spirited

The classic story of a rich curmudgeon who gets a visit from a Christmas ghost gets a full song-and-dance makeover starring Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell. (We won’t hold it against Ryan that this film, unlike most of his movies, was not filmed in Vancouver.)

Causeway

Jennifer Lawrence stars as a struggling soldier who return home to New Orleans to deal with her head injury and wait on her next deployment.

Selena Gomez: My Mind and Me

Singer, actress and mogul opens up to the camera in her new documentary in which she discusses her mental health, career and relationships.

Slumberkins

Could Slumberkins be the new Teletubbies, The Wiggles or Peppa Pig? That’s for preschoolers to decide but Apple+ is putting a lot into launching this creative new show.

Disney+ releases in November

Save our Squad with David Beckham

David Beckham is heading back to his soccer-player roots as he mentors a group of teen players in East London, where he grew up.

Andor

Another month, another Star Wars TV series. This one is a prequel of Rogue One and stars Diegoo Luna. Like most Disney+ series, it is released week by week (and not an entire season at a time).

Disenchanted

Set 15 years after Enchanted, Giselle (Amy Adams) and Robert (Patrick Dempsey) leave New York for a quiet life in the suburbs. Giselle butts wands with town’s queen bee, Malvina Monroe (played by Maya Rudolph), putting her fairy tale in jeopardy.

Pink Lie

Audiences can’t resist a dating show with a twist, like marrying a stranger or courtship without meeting face to face. This series puts a group of young people looking for love in a house (classic) while each carries a secret about their background (twist).

The Kardashians

Miss watching Kim and kompany reruns on E!? Disney+ has the Canadian rights to new Hulu episodes.
