Chad Norman Day, who has served as president of the Tahltan Central Government for a decade, is citing major differences with the government’s board of directors for his resignation, which he describes as a constructive dismissal.

“This letter serves as formal confirmation that I am accepting the TCG’s repudiation of my employment contract and that I consider myself to have been constructively dismissed,” Day said in his letter to the TCG’s board of directors, which has been shared with the media.

“The reasons for this have been outlined clearly through my legal counsel and unfortunately have not been addressed by the TCG in a timely manner.”

Without going into detail, Day cites “strong disagreements” with the board of directors.

“I cannot in good conscience continue in my position when I have such strong disagreements with the direction of the TCG’s board of directors and the ongoing mistreatment and disrespect towards the TCG staff and others.”

Day was elected president of the Tahltan Central Government in 2014, and has served four terms. In that time, Day notes in his letter that “we went from five employees in 2014 to establishing several new TCG departments with a maximum staff of fifty-five over the years, most of whom were Tahltan members.

“Our past accomplishments were driven by a sense of pride and dedication to serving the best interests of the Tahltan Nation. It saddens me that the current state of the TCG no longer reflects these priorities or the integrity or cultural values which initially inspired me to become TCG’s president.”

BIV has reached out to the Tahltan Nation Government for comment on Day’s letter.
