Traffic from Richmond to Delta is heavily congested due to an emergency lane closure in the George Massey Tunnel.
According to a post on social media platform X by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, the southbound right lane in the tunnel is closed to allow BC Hydro to do emergency work on the transmission line.
"This is unplanned, urgent work, that is unrelated to the ongoing tunnel upgrades," reads the post.
Southbound traffic on Highway 99 in Richmond is currently backed up to Highway 91, while eastbound traffic on Steveston Highway is backed up past Shell Road.
Drivers are advised to watch for traffic control, drive with caution and plan for delays.
