Crews are working on repairing damages to River Parkway and Gilbert Road caused by the atmospheric river.

A portion of River Parkway near the Richmond Olympic Oval will be closed for repairs after it was damaged during last night's atmospheric river event.

High flows during the storm resulted in a sewer overflow, causing damage to the surrounding pavement in the area.

Greg Valou, Metro Vancouver spokesperson, told the Richmond News crews have been on the scene since last night to assess the damage.

"There is currently no estimated date for the completion of repairs," said Valou.

River Parkway is closed between Gilbert and Leslie roads with a detour in place. The northbound curb lane of Gilbert Road is also closed south of River Parkway.

Motorists should follow directions from signage and traffic control personnel.

Richmond and the rest of Metro Vancouver were placed under flood watch in anticipation of Monday's atmospheric event, and the southbound Shell Road ramp to Highway 99 was closed overnight due to flooding.
