Highway 99 will be closed in both directions tonight due to work on the new Steveston Interchange.

Both directions of Highway 99 at the Steveston Interchange between the Massey Tunnel and Blundell Road will be closed tonight due to construction work.

The overnight closure will take place between 11 p.m. on March 19 and 4:30 a.m. on March 20, according to a traffic advisory issued by the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure on Tuesday morning.

Traffic will be detoured using existing on and off-ramps and short-term traffic stoppages might take place. Emergency responders, residents and businesses will continue to have access throughout the closure.

The closure will allow crews to move a crane across the lane as they continue to work on the Steveston Interchange Project, which is replacing the existing two-lane Steveston Highway crossing with a five-lane Steveston Interchange.

The project is scheduled to be completed in 2025.

Drivers are advised to drive with caution and check DriveBC.ca for updates.
