The owners and people in attendance at two illegal gatherings were fined more than $16,000 last weekend.

Richmond RCMP officers busted both parties on Feb. 5 and said business and liquor-related charges may also be coming.

Officers received reports of several people entering and exiting a commercial building in the 5700-block of Cedarbridge Way, between Lansdowne Road and Elmbridge Way, around 11:30 p.m.

Sixteen people were at the party and were each handed a $230 ticket, the organizer was fined $2,300, for violating the ongoing Provincial Protective Measures Order.

Around 1:30 a.m., RCMP officers responded to another large gathering in the 12600-block of Vickers Way, where they found 26 people plus two organizers.

Again those in attendance and organizers were given fines.

“The Richmond RCMP is committed to promoting safety in our community, and we will continue to investigate these kinds of circumstances to the fullest,” said Chief Supt. Will Ng, officer-in-charge of the Richmond RCMP, in a news release.

“Our frontline officers will continue to identify those who choose to organize or attend large gatherings like these, and we will continue to hold these people to account.”
