The number of patients with COVID-19 being treated at Richmond Hospital has gone up since last Friday.

As of Tuesday, Aug. 31, a total of eight COVID-19 patients -- six in the COVID-19 unit and two in ICU -- have been admitted to the hospital, according to a Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) spokesperson.

This is up from five patients, which was reported by VCH on Aug. 27.

The Richmond News reported last week that Richmond’s COVID-19 cases has risen with 74 more cases in the latest reported time period (Aug. 15 to 21).

This is up from 57 cases, which were reported by the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) the previous week and 21 about a month ago.

Numbers across the province have continued to rise with 199 people now in B.C. hospitals battling infections, and 112 of those in ICUs. The last time BCCDC observed it this high was in early June.

As of Tuesday, 87 per cent of Richmond residents over the age of 12 have received at least one dose of the vaccine, according to BCCDC’S COVID-19 surveillance dashboard.

The highest vaccination coverage is in Richmond City Centre, where 90 per cent of adults aged 18 and up have received at least one shot, followed by Cambie/Bridgeport area as well as Steveston areas at 89 per cent.
