Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is warning of COVID-19 exposures at five more Richmond schools.

The three elementary and two secondary schools have been added to the health authority’s online list of school exposures.

The list, updated on Monday, reported exposures having occurred at Hamilton elementary on April 6 to 8, McNeely elementary on April 6 and Tomekichi Homma elementary on April 6 to 7.

Meanwhile, exposures also occurred at J.N. Burnett secondary on April 6 and Matthew McNair on April 6 to 7.

An exposure, according to VCH, is when an individual with COVID-19 was in the school during their infectious period.

However, this doesn’t mean there was transmission of the virus in the school.

Last week, district superintendent Scott Robinson said exposures have been up in Richmond since the two-week spring break like in other school districts.

He added that there have been no known transmissions of COVID-19 in Richmond schools since September.

According to the B.C. School COVID Tracker, a Facebook group that keeps track of COVID-19 cases in B.C. schools, there have been 4,848 school exposures in 1,145 B.C. schools as of Monday, April 12. Of those exposures, 75 have been variants of concern.
