Richmond saw 53 cases over the past week (May 21 to 27), according to the BC Centre for Disease Control’s new COVID-19 data dashboard.

This is a drop from 73 in the preceding seven days.

Meanwhile, over half (59 per cent) of all adults over the age of 18 in Richmond have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as of May 27.

This is lower, however, than other Lower Mainland regions, which report between 61 to 80 per cent of adults over 18 have received at least one dose. For example, the vaccination coverage in Delta for this age group is 75 per cent and in North Vancouver, 72 per cent.

The vaccination coverage for adults over 55 in Richmond, meanwhile, is 75 per cent – but this is also lower than most other areas of the Lower Mainland, according to the dashboard.

For the most part, other Lower Mainland regions have given at least one dose of the vaccine to over 80 per cent of adults over the age of 55, except for Burnaby (78 per cent) and some Vancouver neighbourhoods (between 72 and 79 per cent).

According to the dashboard, Richmond’s average daily case rate of new cases is 3 per 100,000 population, for the week of May 21 to May 27.

The dashboard also breaks down case rate by community health service areas (CHSA) in Richmond – essentially at the neighbourhood level.

The CHSA of Gilmore/Shellmont/East/Hamilton had 2 new cases per 100,000 residents during the week of May 21 to May 27.

In Steveston, the average daily case rate of new cases per 100,000 residents was 1 during that week, while Blundell saw an average daily case rate of 2 and Thompson/Seafair, 3, per 100,000 residents. East and West Cambie and Bridgeport had an average daily case rate of 4 per 100,000 residents and Richmond City Centre, 5.

The CHSA of Broadmoor saw the highest average daily case rate of new cases, at 6 per 100,000 residents, during the week in question.
