There were 54 cases of COVID-19 in Richmond between May 23 and May 29, according to the BC Centre for Disease Control.

This is up slightly from the 49 cases detected the week prior (May 16 to 22).

Overall, however, Richmond’s cases have been trending downwards in recent weeks.

Richmond’s average daily rate was 0.1 to 5 cases per 100,000 population for the week ending May 29, according to the BCCDC. In comparison, Delta, Burnaby and North Vancouver, for example, had an average daily case rate between 5 to 10 cases per 100,000 population, while Surrey's rate was between 10 and 15 per 100,000 residents.

The BCCDC now also provides more detailed data about cases at a community level, through its new COVID-19 surveillance dashboard.

That data, which covers a slightly different period – May 28 to June 3 – reveals that Blundell had an average daily case rate of 0.

Steveston had an average daily case rate of one per 100,000 residents, while Thompson/Seafair and Gilmore/Shellmont/East/Hamilton each had an average daily case rate of two.

The average daily case rate was four per 100,000 residents in City Centre and East and West Cambie/Bridgeport.

The highest average daily case rate, meanwhile, was seen Broadmoor, with a case rate of 7 per 100,000 residents.

There are currently two COVID-19 outbreaks in Richmond, one at Richmond Hospital in the 4 North elderly care unit – where 11 patients have tested positive, and one person has died – and the other at Richmond Lions Manor-Bridgeport, a long-term care home. That outbreak was declared last week after two staff and two patients tested positive.

Overall case counts in B.C. also continue to drop, with 183 cases reported on Friday – the lowest daily total since Oct. 20.
