Dozens of Richmondites will brave the cold Saturday for the Coldest Night of the Year charity walk, raising money to help the city’s less fortunate.

Several of the family-friendly walks will happen across the country this weekend, with the goal of raising money for charities serving “hungry, homeless and hurting people in our communities,” according to their website.

Richmond’s walk is led by Chimo Community Services, a society that helps people in crisis or transition by connecting them with resources. They’re encouraging residents to join the walk by bundling up and raising cold, hard cash.

“By walking together in the chill of the night, participants will better understand the experience of being on the streets during a cold Canadian winter,” the organization said in a release.

The walk begins at Gilmore Park United Church (8161 No. 1 Road) at 4 p.m. Participants will put on their CNOY toques and walk a two kilometre, five kilometre or 10 kilometre route and then warm up with a celebration meal at the end.

Chimo expects 150 walkers to take part, and hopes to raise $30,000.
