Halloween events happening in Richmond

Richmond is spooking up the month with a list of Halloween-themed events leading up to the special day on Oct. 31 .

The events range from children activities, family-friendly parties and even a special party for seniors.

“Richmond is once again providing family-friendly and safe Halloween experiences for all ages,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie.

“These low cost or free fun events offered by the city and its partners continue to build a great sense of community spirit.”

Here is a list of Halloween events happening in October:

Once upon a pumpkin

Explore the Nature House and learn about Halloween’s origins in nature.

Date: Oct. 13 to Oct. 31
Time: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Location: Richmond Nature Park

Wild Things Nature Park

A family-friendly, theatrical experience that ties together nature, wildlife and Halloween.
Date: Oct. 19 to Oct. 20
Time: 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Pumpkin patch in the pool

Choose your Halloween pumpkin in a new way by jumping into the water and pick one to take home.
Date: Oct. 20
Time: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Stop motion animations: Monsters

Using iPads provided by the Richmond Public Library, kids (ages eight to 12) can create a short monster-themed animation.

Date: Oct. 24 and Oct. 31
Time: 3:45 to 4:15 p.m.

Halloween party

Dress up in a costume for this slightly spooky-themed party with games, crafts and snacks for children ages one to six years.

Spooktacular Halloween family skate

Skate under special lighting to a mix of fun music including some Halloween tunes. Wear a costume and get free skate rentals.

Time: 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday; 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday; 12 to 4 p.m. on Sunday

Hocus Pocus at the Richmond Olympic Oval

Enjoy a thrilling skate, climb the creepy crawly climbing wall and meet a magician while dressed in costumes. There will also be a zombie Zumba.

Location: Richmond Olympic Oval, 6111 River Rd.

Spooktacular – a family-friendly Halloween dance party

List to some friendly-spooky stories or make magical crafts. There will be a dance party with a live DJ mixing Halloween favourites, face painting and a photo booth.

Time: 2 to 5 p.m.
Location: Gateway Theatre, 6500 Gilbert Rd.

Halloween dance social 55+

Dress up for this Halloween-inspired party complete with refreshments, performances, dancing and costume contest. For ages 55 and up

On Halloween night, there will free community fireworks at five locations in Richmond:

  1. Minoru Park – 6:30 to 8:45 p.m.
  2. Hugh Boyd Community Park – 8:15 p.m.
  3. McLean Neighbourhood Park – 8:15 p.m.
  4. South Arm Community Park – 8:15 p.m.
  5. Burkeville Neighbourhood Park – 8:15 p.m.
