Each year, when given the chance to be a philanthropic leader for local health care, Shoppers Drug Mart stores in Richmond are always there to prescribe their support. For Alex Dar Santos, Kelly Basran, Kory Hu, Rahim Janmohamed, Peter Lok, Karen Ong, and Kamal Rattanpal, all owners and pharmacists of their respective Richmond Shoppers Drug Mart stores, fundraising for local women’s health is a cause that’s vital to the community.

“Everyone has a mother, grandmother, or sister who deals with a women’s health issue, and when somebody makes a donation in one of our stores, they know that this will benefit a female family member,” says Alex.

Donations for the Growing Women’s Health campaign were accepted in all eight Richmond Shoppers Drug Mart stores for a month this past October. Customers were encouraged to purchase and personalize a paper icon of a leaf, butterfly, bird, or apple which was then displayed on the Growing Women’s Health Tree.

“We are proud to announce that the eight Richmond Shoppers Drug Mart stores raised more than $23,000 from the Growing Women’s Health fundraising efforts,” says Alex. “In making a donation at our stores, our community has shown that they deeply care about women’s health and that they are making a direct impact on the quality of care people receive at the hospital.”

With a strong belief in the power of the community, customers at Richmond Shoppers Drug Mart stores have donated more than $200,000 for Richmond Hospital since 2008.

Richmond’s eight Shoppers Drug Mart stores serve an increasingly diverse community, and Alex says their businesses have embraced the growth to better serve their customers.

“Ultimately, our goal is to see all of the women in this community receive excellent local health care, and we’re honoured to see our Growing Women’s Health campaign playing an important role,” says Alex.
