HistoryColored has used AI to restore footage from the 1920s of people swimming in the water and relaxing at English Bay Beach in Vancouver.

What did a visit to English Bay Beach look like 100 years ago?

There is some footage from the area around that time, but it's black and white and isn't as smooth as modern-day footage due to the technology at the time.

However, HistoryColored, a website (that started on Instagram), has used AI to colourize the footage and update it.

"Restored footage from the 1920s of people swimming in the water and relaxing at English Bay Beach in Vancouver, Canada," reads the post.

The footage is made up of two shots; one is a pan across the beach, showing people playing in the water.

The second shows a pair of women hanging out at the beach and enjoying a snack.

The footage comes from a short film by the CPR called "Seeing Canada." The film offers a glimpse of several destinations across Canada that the railway stopped at in the 1920s, including Ottawa, Niagara Falls, and Winnipeg.
