Greater Metro Jr. A Hockey League

There is more hockey in the Peace.

The Tumbler Ridge Junior A Steel Kings start their GMHL season on the road for the first game of a home and home against the Mackenzie Mountaineers as they join the league.

They return home the following night for their home opener on Saturday October 1 at 7:30pm at the Tumbler Ridge Community Centre vs the Mountaineers.

Brian Verbeek is the team’s head coach and AGM. He is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre with a passion for the game of hockey. Verbeek said he is excited to move to Tumbler Ridge and become invested in the community.

Team director Andre Payette said he comes with an illustrious hockey playing and coaching background.

“He has coached, managed, and run minor hockey associations, junior hockey teams, and has worked as a skills coach with professional hockey players and teams at every level including the NHL, therefore we feel could not have found a better candidate for this inaugural season. Brain shares our core values of hard work, respect, community, and always doing the right thing.”
