Lytton, B.C. was devastated by fire on June 30.

The Transportation Safety Board is sending a team to Lytton to investigate the fire that destroyed the small village.

In a very brief statement, the TSB said they will be investigating “a fire potentially involving a freight train in Lytton."

While locals have suspected train traffic may have been responsible for starting the catastrophic fire on June 30, CN Rail issued a statement earlier this week that a video of a burning train circulating on social media was taken about 45 kilometres south of Lytton. CN said that train was not responsible for sparking the blaze.

The official cause of the fire remains under investigation by the BC Wildfire Service.

On Friday, federal Transport Minister Omar Alghabra ordered all train traffic through Lytton to halt for 48 hours, while residents return to the village on escorted tours.

The TSB investigates air, marine, pipeline and rail transportation incident, but it is not the TSB's function to assign fault or determine liability.
