An annual inspection of the Pattullo Bridge is set to close the Fraser River overpass this week, but only for overnight commuters.

Between Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 1 and 2, northbound traffic into New Westminster from Surrey will be closed off to make room for a snooper truck to inspect the bridge for seven hours.

In a release, TransLink explained workers will need the two lanes to "safely work and travel" while conducting its inspection underneath the bridge deck.

"This annual inspection is needed to keep the Pattullo Bridge in a state of good repair," the regional transit authority said.

Those that regularly utilize the Pattullo Bridge overnight are being encouraged to consider going over the Port Mann or Alex Fraser bridges to get to New Westminster.

Transit riders for TransLink's N19 Nightbus and route 103 trips are set to be redirected to the Alex Fraser and Queensborough bridges to and from the Scott Road SkyTrain Station.

Southbound traffic, including pedestrians and cyclists, from New West to Surrey will remain open during the inspection, taking place from 10 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday.

Motorists are encouraged to slow down and to follow any and all traffic controllers on site.

The inspection does not appear to be connected with the ongoing $1.377-billion replacement project for the Pattullo, expected to open in 2024.
