Nearly 72 per cent of new COVID-19 hospitalizations not fully vaccinated: ministry

VICTORIA — British Columbia is reporting 324 new cases of COVID-19 and seven more deaths from the virus. 

The Health Ministry says in a statement Wednesday there are 3,380 active COVID-19 cases with 379 people in hospital, including 109 in intensive care.

The Fraser Health region had the highest number of new cases at 108, followed by 73 in Northern Health.

The statement says 90.7 per cent of eligible people 12 and older have received their first dose of vaccine and 86.9 per cent have received their second shot. 

For the weeklong period ending Monday, it says 71.9 per cent of people hospitalized with COVID-19 were not fully vaccinated. 

There have been a total of 213,682 COVID-19 cases in the province and 2,281 deaths to date.
