COVID-positive hospitalizations decreased by 4% in B.C.

COVID-19 hospitalizations in B.C. dropped by four per cent Friday.

The province is reporting 1,799 new COVID-19 cases in B.C. in the past 24 hours, bringing the province's active cases to 25,479. Of these cases, 946 people are now hospitalized, a decrease of 39 since Thursday. Those being treated in ICU dropped by six, to 139.

Active cases in the province decreased by 75 since Thursday.

There are now 7,976 active cases in the region.

Another 19 new COVID deaths have been reported throughout B.C. in the past 24 hours, including five in Fraser Health, six in Vancouver Coastal Health, six in Island Health and two in Northern Health. To date, 2,675 British Columbians have died after contracting COVID-19.

The new/active cases include:

  • 551 new cases in Fraser Health — Total active cases: 9,987
  • 294 new cases in Vancouver Coastal Health — Total active cases: 4,828
  • 531 new cases in Interior Health — Total active cases: 7,976
  • 191 new cases in Northern Health — Total active cases: 1,155
  • 232 new cases in Island Health — Total active cases: 1,516

There have been three new healthcare facility outbreaks in B.C. While the Ministry of Health disclosed a new outbreak at Vernon's Creekside Landing long-term care home Friday, Interior Health declared the outbreak back on Jan. 31. The ministry says there are now 58 ongoing outbreaks at healthcare facilities across the province.

In the past 24 hours, 30,345 doses of the vaccine were administered in B.C. As of Friday, 90% of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 84.2% have received their second dose. To date, 48.1% of all eligible people 12 and older have received their third booster dose.

From Jan. 27 to Feb. 2, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 24.9% of cases and from Jan. 20 to Feb. 2 they accounted for 31.2% of hospitalizations.
