For a third time since its official opening, Shas Ti-Kelly Road Secondary has been marked with a COVID-19 exposure event.
Students and staff at the Prince George school off the Hart Highway may have come into contact with someone who recently tested positive for the virus between Jan. 25 and 27.
In a letter by Northern Health, the authority is encouraging members of the school's community to monitor symptoms until Feb. 10, which is 14 days after the last known case was confirmed.
It adds you'll be contacted personally by public health officials if you're identified as a close contact, the alert goes on to explain.
Shas Ti-Kelly Road was previously alerted twice for potential exposures Nov. 30-Dec. 2, 2020, and Dec. 7-11, 2020.
In total, 19 Prince George-based schools have been flagged at least once by Northern Health for a COVID-19 exposure event.
Broken down, this includes 16 School District 57 (SD57) facilities and three independent institutions.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame Catholic School in Dawson Creek was warned a second time for a COVID-19 exposure event, its first mid-October, for Jan. 25, 2021.
Northern Health's school-exposure section explains students should still go to school "if you do not receive a phone call or letter from Public Health," but you're also encouraged to monitor symptoms daily.
- Contact tracing is initiated to determine how the individual was infected and who they were in close contact with
- We identify and notify close contacts who may be at an increased risk, and advise them to self-isolate and monitor for symptoms for 14 days
- Only Public Health can determine who is a close contact
- Learning groups, friends or other connections may not be determined to be a close contact
- Public Health staff works closely with the school and school district throughout the case and contact management process to maintain close communication with the school community

As of this publication, Northern Health has recorded 3,489 infections for COVID-19 since March last year, including 98 new ones since Friday (Jan. 29).
Sadly, this included seven more virus-linked deaths, one-third of B.C.'s weekend toll of 21, raising the regional total to 74 since the pandemic hit the north.
There are also 15 people admitted into critical care or ICU among 32 total hospitalizations, 359 active infections and 3,046 recoveries.
