A 47-year-old man has been arrested after a knife-wielding man was reported to be threatening people on the Galloping Goose Trail in View Royal.

West Shore RCMP responded on Tuesday about 7 p.m. near the area of Atkins and Brydon roads.

The man is charged with uttering threats, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of a prohibited device.

Police said they seized a knife that opened with centrifugal force, a weapon it’s illegal to possess.

The suspect was displaying symptoms of being intoxicated by alcohol, police said.

The man was held in police custody and was set to make a court appearance Wednesday.

“Thankfully no one was physically injured in this incident,” said West Shore RCMP Cpl. Nancy Saggar.

Saggar thanked the witness who called police right away and provided a detailed description of the suspect and his location, which she said allowed police to apprehend the man quickly.
