Another three deaths at Jubilee Lodge in Prince George among eight new cases

The death toll now rises to 10 since the outbreak began

There's more tragic news today (Dec. 29) among the COVID-19 outbreak at Jubilee Lodge in Prince George.

Northern Health has confirmed to PrinceGeorgeMatters three additional deaths have occurred at the long-term care facility, increasing the toll to 10 since the outbreak was declared on Dec. 12.

Eight new infections have also been discovered, seven residents and one staff member, bringing Jubilee Lodge's grand total to 59 and broken down among 48 residents and 11 staff.

Pre-outbreak, there were approximately 66 total residents living at the facility. 

When the outbreak was declared, Northern Health reported COVID-19 cases among two residents and one staff member. 

Another nine cases were then announced on Dec. 16, which involved six more residents and another three staff members, bringing the to-date total to 12.

On Dec. 22, the authority revealed four deaths since the start with another 30 residents and three staff infected with the virus. 

That brought the recorded total to 38 residents and seven staff members at that time.

On Christmas Eve, the authority announced three additional deaths at the long-term care facility along with six new infections, three residents and three staff, bringing case the total to 51 involving 41 residents and 10 staff members. 

“The toll that COVID-19 has had on many of our most cherished, but most vulnerable, members of our communities has been heavy,” Northern Health CEO Cathy Ulrich said in a release on Dec. 22. 

“Our heartfelt condolences go to residents of Jubilee Lodge and their families as well as to their caregivers; the staff, nurses and physicians who continue to provide excellent and compassionate care during understandably challenging circumstances.”

The authority says roughly two dozen residents were able to be vaccinated last week with the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.

As of publication, Northern Health has a recorded total of 1,719 COVID-19 cases since March with 63 of those announced during the last update from health officials on Dec. 24 along with 516 active cases and 16 people in critical care.
