'Stay glued to the tube': New cafe and specialty grocer opening in Kitsilano

They plan to 'proudly support local' businesses.

Kitsilano's east end will soon have a new cafe and specialty grocery store.

Signs for a business called TV Dinner have appeared on 1780 W 3rd Ave.

The signs give limited info on the business being built inside, simply suggesting fresh coffee, food, and provisions are coming, and local businesses will be supported. The signs also give a very 80s or 90s vibe.

TV Dinner's online presence matches that, with clips from Seinfeld, Nicholas Cage on Wogan, and ZZ Top's "TV Dinners."

"Stay glued to the tube! It’s almost showtime!" reads the caption to one Instagram reel. "We’re thrilled to welcome the community for top-notch coffee, frozen and fresh specialty foods from local producers, and much more."

No opening date has been announced, only that TV Dinner will be "opening soon."

That location was most recently the home to the second Bel Cafe, one of David Hawksworth's enterprises. It closed in June 2023 after five years of serving casual dishes and pastries.
