Richmond youth wrestling athletes medal at national championship

Local wrestling club came home with a large medal haul.

Athletes, parents and coaches from Bhullar Wrestling Club at the Canadian Wrestling Nationals.

A Richmond wrestling club brought home its largest medal haul including a gold medal at a national competition this month.

Bhullar Wrestling Club athletes competed in the 2024 Canadian Wrestling Championships from April 4 to 7 at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre Sportsplex in Mississauga, Ont.

Sahara Purewal won gold in the girls 58kg division and Kaiya Mannapso and Bubba Lungull won silver in the girl's 64kg and boys 41kg divisions, respectively.

Tiana Medieros took home bronze in the 46kg girls division.

Four wrestling youths from the club also placed top 6 within their categories:

  • Riley Jhuty placed fourth in the 60kg boys 
  • Taya Medieros placed fifth in the 46kg girls 
  • Izzy Chen placed sixth in the 51kg girls 

The national competition saw many young male and female wrestlers from across Canada compete in 144 weight classes.
