UPDATE & VIDEO: Up to six shots may have been fired at Richmond gym

Bullet holes through glass at Steve Nash Fitness Centre Monday night; ten patrons and staff uninjured

Up to six gunshots may have been fired at one of Richmond’s top city centre gyms.

Police were called after gym members and staff heard gunfire ring out around 9:50 p.m. Monday at the Steve Nash Fitness World at 6351 Westminster Hwy, near No. 2 Road.

It’s thought about 10 customers and at least one staff member were inside the building, the only business open in the commercial/industrial complex around that time.

No one was injured in the shooting and Richmond Mounties are still unsure whether the gym or someone inside was the intended target.

Bullet casings were found inside the gym and two bullet holes, bearing evidence markings “5” and “6”, were still visible Tuesday morning on a glass side door.

However, a glazier had just finished repairing a large panel at the main entrance, where other shots are understood to have been fired.

Richmond RCMP’s Cpl. Stephanie Ashton said the evidence gathered so far from gym members who were there hasn’t yet led to any suspects or motive.

“There’s no indication right now that anyone inside or the Steve Nash gym was the target,” said Ashton.

“No one was hit by the shots; people inside only heard the shots being fired.”

Although the gym is in a fairly remote location, police are hoping someone can come forward with information.

Ashton said there have been no serious crime or gang-related incidents in the past connected to the gym or the immediate area.
