Sandra Nixon
Richmond Board of Education trustee candidate Sandra Nixon

As a Richmond resident since 2002 and a mother of two, I have experienced what a great place our city is to raise a family, and how vital our education system is to the health of our community.

I am dedicated to the vision that sees all students provided with the opportunity to develop to their fullest potential as creative, self-directed, resilient individuals within an environment that fosters empathy, social responsibility, respect for difference and the value of diverse and inclusive community.

My priority as a trustee will be to ensure that  Richmond’s education system reflects local priorities and values. I also believe it is vitally important to speak with a clear and strong voice to government about the need for increased funding for a well-resourced school system.

Key issues I will also advocate for:

Emphasis on social responsibility and intercultural understanding

Arts, music, healthy lifestyle & life skills programs

Better mental health and special needs resources

Classroom innovation and new learning methodologies
