Social media mourning over Stephen Hawking’s death

Stephen Hawking, the world renowned physicist, died in his Cambridge, England home early Wednesday morning.

Stephen Hawking, the world renowned physicist, died in his Cambridge, England home early Wednesday morning.

Hawking, who was 76, was born January 8, 1942, the 300th anniversary of Galileo Galilei's death and died on March 14th, the anniversary of Albert Einstein's birth as well as Pi (π) Day —  the infinite number that's used to calculate the circumference of a circle.

The whole world has been mourning on social media about his death. Here in Richmond, hundreds of people expressed deep condolences on Twitter. Across the world in China, the news generated nearly half a billion clicks on Weibo (Chinese Twitter).
