Get your groove on at ...Lulubaloo?
Richmond's big, new Labour Day weekend party may be named Lulubaloo, according to a recommendation from city staff.
Richmond is situated on Lulu Island. A hullabaloo is a defined as a "very noisy and confused situation."
Bryan Tasaka, the city's manager of major events, will unveil the proposal at a parks committee meeting on Tuesday.
The $250,000 (estimated) outdoor "multicultural" party will take place on Sep. 5 at Minoru Park.
It will feature an entertainment stage, a Global Food Truck Zone with 30 food trucks, and a Sports Zone for lesser known sports from around the world.
“This festival will celebrate Richmond’s significant diversity through music, food and culture and will have the potential to become a destination event,” stated Tasaka.
The event, seen as a long-weekend alternative to the Pacific National Exhibition, was approved by council earlier this month.
