Richmond’s library workers will see a boost to their wages thanks to a new, four-year collective agreement.

Agreed upon between Richmond Public Library’s board and CUPE 3966, the union representing approximately 120 Richmond library workers, the new agreement will bring employees a wage increases of 1.5 per cent in each of the two first years of the contract, followed by an increase of two per cent in the final two years.

Auxiliary workers will also see improvements on how they gain seniority. Vision care and orthotics coverage will also be improved.

"We are pleased to have concluded this round of negotiations, and achieved an agreement that includes improvements that will positively affect our temporary and auxiliary workers," said Kate Adams, president of CUPE 3966 in a press release. "All of our members are committed to the important community services they provide and we look forward to continuing to work with the Richmond Public Library to deliver those services."

The new agreement runs until Dec. 31, 2019 and is retroactive to Jan. 1, 2016.
