Luckily, no one was injured after a black Acura sedan drove into the Companion Pet Foods and Supplies store at Seafair shopping centre Monday morning.

Store owner Karen Georgelin said she had been standing where the car smashed through the front window, two minutes prior.

“And, luckily, no one was standing outside,” she said.

Georgelin was stocking shelves at the moment of impact.

“I heard a funny noise, turned around and a car was coming through the window,” she said.

Georgelin is a long-time Richmond resident and says the thought of something such as this happening at her store has crossed her mind before, especially considering two such incidents have occurred at the mall before.

She said the male driver was a senior who told RCMP officers he thought he was in reverse when he stepped on the gas.

As of Tuesday, Georgelin said she’s assessing the damages to her store.

Richmond RCMP confirmed Tuesday there were no injuries and the accident was due to "driver error."
