Ikea gets its own Knight Street off ramp

A new exit on Knight Street ushers shoppers to the Ikea parking lot

A newly opened off ramp southbound on Knight Street will allow Ikea shoppers to bypass the always busy Bridgeport Road.

Ikea paid for the Jacombs Road exit after the City of Richmond approved rezoning and construction for its new store.

Southbound travellers coming off the Knight Street Bridge can take the exit onto Mannini Way and, subsequently, the Ikea parking lot.

Vehicles can also funnel south to Cambie Street, via Jacombs, for more convenient access to Cambie secondary school and King George park.

“IKEA has been a prominent business in Richmond for 38 years – since opening its first store in Canada, on an adjacent property in 1976,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie via a news release.

“Constructing the connector road to provide a convenient alternate access to this very active business area is an example of how collaborative planning at the re-zoning stage can offer long-term improvements to the entire vicinity as well as benefit the immediate development.”
