Independent Richmond City Council candidate Jerome Dickey vowed to limit his time on council to two four-year terms.

He became the first candidate to make such an announcement.

Term limits can only be self-imposed as there is no present provincial law regulating such a thing.

"Decades ago it was acceptable in business to spend ones entire career at an organization in the same role but in today’s modern world, with an increased pace of change, it’s too easy to get locked into an insular viewpoint or stuck in present rather than looking toward the future," noted Dickey on his Facebook page.

He said term limits weaken the relationship between politicians and special interest groups.

Dickey has vowed to raise development cost charges to better fund affordable housing units.

Most recently he also said co-op housing needs to be more available in Richmond.

Dickey is a big proponent of local food security.
